Abstract
Monte Carlo results of portal monitor detector sensitivity are presented. The simulated detector uses the difference in count statistics between background and background plus a source to discriminate between background count fluctuations and radioactive sources. This method allows the detection of very low count sources, with a very low level of false alarms due to background fluctuations. Results for portal monitors utilizing various numbers of detectors are presented. The system sensitivity for standard sources and for isotopic Special Nuclear Material is shown.
