Abstract
As modern day private corporations strive to modernize production, warehousing and inventory applications with the use of new, budding technology; Government agencies lack the same initiative and where-with-all to incorporate such applications. In the age of decreasing budgets, manpower restrictions and work place efficiencies, it is imperative that Government Owned Contractor Operated facilities continue to strive for efficiencies in their current work practices and operations. With today’s readily available computer systems, easy to use bar code inventory systems and wireless tracking/instant inventory applications, it only makes sound business sense to modernize the antiquated method of current MC&A operations. This will allow facility resources to be reallocated to other tasks and the realized monetary savings to be redirected for other applications. This paper will describe the application of one such integrated system which incorporates wireless tracking and instant inventory for a typical material vault which requires basic receipt, confirmation, verification and storage operations. Cost savings, human resource efficiencies and facility operation benefits will be evaluated when comparing basic vault operations to a proposed modernized facility.
