Abstract
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the Y-12 National Security Complex have a long- standing history of expertise with handling special nuclear material (SNM). This expertise is recognized internationally, and historically it has been utilized when there is a need to expedite the removal of these materials. These operations typically require personnel to travel to some foreign location and while in the field identify, repackage, ship and account for varying numbers of containers of SNM. In order to facilitate these operations, ORNL developed the Material Reconciliation software. This software provides the capability for personnel to quickly reconcile, repackage, and ship materials with significant savings in time and increased data accuracy.
