Managing the GNEP Science and Technology Program

The Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) recently cooperated with experts from U.S. national laboratories, the Chinese Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), and other Chinese government agencies to implement a pilot program to ensure proper radiological security for spectators and participants for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The success of the pilot program resulted in an extension of these efforts, to be completed in May 2008. This paper details the radiological removal and training activities, as well as the successes and lessons learned, in this international initiative.
