Abstract
Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) plays an important role in the defense-in-depth of a nuclear facility by providing positive assurance of the presence of special nuclear material (SNM); however, many concepts that pertain to MC&A tend to be esoteric and unfamiliar to most people. To help address this issue, the National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Security Operations and Programmatic Planning (NA-71) has partnered with the Texas A&M University Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) Student Chapter, the University of Tennessee INMM Student Chapter, the Department of Energy National Training Center (NTC), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to continue a video series aimed at explaining key topics within MC&A. The Top Things to Know about Special Nuclear Material, the second video in the series, helps communicate salient points about SNM to a broad audience, ranging from the policy makers to protective forces. This paper provides an overview of the video content and describes how the authors worked with the NTC to produce the video.
