Abstract
The Los Alamos National Laboratory develops and applies science and technology to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the United States nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat of weapons of mass destruction, proliferation, and terrorism; and solve national problems in defense, energy, and the environment. Risk must be actively managed to assure accountable nuclear material is effectively safeguarded and performance is continuously improved. Performance feedback collection, analysis and trending helps ensure managers are aware of changing risk levels and emerging risks before a consequential failure occurs. The Los Alamos National Laboratory nuclear material control and accountability (NMCA) risk-based performance feedback and improvement (PFI) process supports feedback collection, evaluation and response to proactively identify and correct/improve performance before a significant event occurs and facilitates continuous improvement. Feedback includes findings, deficiencies, anomalies and improvement recommendations.
