ISSUES IN SPENT FUEL VERIFICATION AT CANDU REACTOR

Abstract
Korea has been carrying out national safeguards inspection since 1997. TCNC has gained several years of experience in safeguards inspection for the On-Load Reactor since then. For the national and international safeguards inspection, TCNC has developed several NDA equipment for verification of spent fuel and currently in use. However, tray design which store the spent fuel bundle has been slightly modified for the safety improvement in new reactor, this has affected safeguards approach, such as item counting and NDA measurement of spent fuel in trays, as well as reactor safety. Also for the effectiveness of safeguards inspection it is necessary to improve the existing measures. This paper shows measures under way to improve their effectiveness.
