Investigation of the Use of ISOTOPICTM with Sodium Iodide Investigation of the Use of ISOTOPICTM with Sodium Iodide Detectors

The ORTEC software ISOTOPICTM is designed for use with high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors. This paper will examine the possibility of the application of ISOTOPICTM software with a 3X3-inch sodium iodide (NaI) detector. The investigation into the application of the software to a low resolution detector was not an attempt to substitute HPGe measurements with NaI measurements, and there was no expectation of comparable performance. There was evidence from preliminary data, however, that there were field scenarios for which the advantages afforded by the use of a NaI detector coupled with analysis of 3X3 NaI spectra with ISOTOPICTM could be quite useful.
