Abstract
Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) N15, Methods of Nuclear Material Control, is sponsored by the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop standards for protection, control and accounting of special nuclear materials in all phases of the nuclear fuel cycle, including analytical procedures where necessary and special to this purpose, except that physical protection of special nuclear material within a nuclear power plant is not included. Voluntary consensus standards complement federal regulations, technical standards, and guides and fulfill an important role for the nuclear community. This presentation provides a brief history of INMM ASC N15, summarizes the standards development process, and discusses activities in the period of 2013-2019. The N15 officers ask U.S. nuclear material protection, control, and accounting professionals to consider whether they have needs for voluntary consensus standards, and if so, to suggest needed standards and/or volunteer to participate on a writing team. N15 develops standards for both the physical security and MC&A programs.
