Abstract
A new Radioactive Material packaging has been designed for the transportation and storage of plutonium Heat Source material. The package User required a package maintenance period of not less than two (2) years and the capability of storing the contents in a fully assembled package or, alternately, in just the sealed containment vessel. The H1700 Packaging meets both the Type B Packaging performance requirements specified in Part 71 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations [Ref. 1] and the Users operational needs.
