Abstract
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) supports U.S. threat reduction efforts by securing stockpiles of weapons usable nuclear and radioactive materials located at civilian sites around the world. GTRI has developed a multipronged integrated strategy to improve the protection of nuclear and radioactive materials and to promote the long-term sustainability of protection measures. The GTRI protection strategy includes three integrated components: REDUCE, PROTECT, AND SUSTAIN. Each of these elements is described. In this context, GTRI progress achieved to date and plans for the future are presented.
