Abstract
The National Nuclear Security Administration has been providing security upgrades at nuclear facilities around the world for over a decade. Beginning with what was first titled the NIS/Baltics Security Program, it has grown to support additional U.S. nonproliferation objectives in all corners of the Globe. Recently, this program was transferred to the Office of Global Threat Reduction (GTRI) as it is a natural complement to GTRI’s other programs. Now known as the Global Research Reactor Security Program (GRRSP), the Program ensures the security of special nuclear materials until such time as they can be removed, repatriated, blended-down or otherwise disposed of. This paper will discuss the new Global Research Reactor Security Program, its new mission, strategies and objectives.
