Abstract
Educating the public about nuclear process, benefits, and safeguards is an important part of securing support for issues surrounding the nuclear industry. Further, educating the current generation of youth about the concepts and possibilities afforded in the nuclear industry is critical to laying the groundwork for the next generation of nuclear workers. Animations, illustrations, and other visual media is a good start but are all still passive methods of learning. Games can provide immersive and interactive methods of illustrating sometimes complex scientific and procedural ideas. In this presentation/paper we will present three case studies illustrating how immersive “play” in 3D games provides a hook for keeping young learners engaged and excited about nuclear concepts.
