Abstract
This paper provides details of some of the advanced safeguards related capabilities that are being incorporated to the NGAM/URDM instrument that has been jointly developed by Bot Engineering and the CSSP. As has been previously presented, the NGAM has been developed for missions related to fixed and portable safeguards, Homeland Security, transportation security as well a nuclear facility I&C. While the safeguards version of the NGAM platform was intended as a replacement for the VIFM ADAM system, additional computational capability has purposely been built into the new instrument to allow it to incorporate advanced capabilities which have been desirable but have not been possible with previous safeguard equipment. Included in the discussion are the details of the advanced capabilities which include the ability to implement a radiation hardened digitally based detector and identification system, the ability to implement COTS authentication and encryption in a non PC based system and the ability to operate the NGAM in a network of data collect instruments without the need for a collect computer. Also, for completeness, this paper presents a very brief overview of the NGAM and closes with a forward looking projection of other safeguards related capabilities that are being envisioned for future implementation.
