Abstract
The Standard Review Plan (SRP) for Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) license renewal is intended for use by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff/reviewer. The objective of the SRP is to provide guidance for the safety review of license renewal applications for currently operating ISFSIs, and holders of a certificate of compliance (CoC) for a dry cask storage system (DCSS), as codified in Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (10CFR) Part 72. The SRP defines a process for performing a license renewal aging management review and identifies specific technical issues that must be addressed by an applicant to obtain an approved license renewal. An ISFSI license (site-specific or general) authorizes a licensee to store spent fuel in an NRC-approved DCSS at a site under the requirements of Title 10, Part 72. To obtain a renewal of a specific license, an applicant is required to submit a license renewal application at least 2 years before the expiration of the license, and not less than 30 days prior to expiration date of the CoC, in accordance with the requirements of Parts 72.42(b) and 72.240(b), respectively. To date the NRC has approved site specific license renewals for a term up 40 years.
