Abstract
nuclear power plants of the Russian Federation. It is known that all nuclear power plants have nearly similar processing areas, nuclear materials management cycles and structure of their monitoring. In 1999 RFNC-VNIITF took the initiative to develop a typical computerized nuclear materials accounting system that would be adapted to a specific nuclear power plant (NPP CMAS). The NPP CMAS is designed for accurate and timely tracking the flows of nuclear materials and their amount on inventory through their life cycle at the nuclear power plant, starting from receipt of fuel assembly from a fuel fabrication plant and ending with transfer of spent fuel assemblies for storing or utilization. Purpose of the CMAS development: • Increase timeliness and accuracy of nuclear materials accounting and reporting at NPP; • Computer-aided preparation and recording of operations on transfer of nuclear materials at NPP; • Upgrade detection and prevention of losses, thefts or diversion of nuclear materials; • Providing interface with measuring equipment (identification and weight measurement, etc.) in real time; • Providing integration with the State nuclear materials control and accounting system; • Providing the required basis for application of the IAEA safeguards, international treaties and agreements. Conclusion The development of computerized nuclear materials accounting systems for NPP will significantly simplify the transfer of nuclear power stations to the unified computerized accounting and provide integration with the Federal Information System. The CMAS for the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Station developed by RFNC-VNIITF can be considered as a prototype NPP CMAS.
