Abstract
In recent years, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has dedicated significant effort to formalize its training program for domestic inspectors, termed the Inspector Training Qualification Program (ITQP). Launched in 2009, the program is based on centralized, standardized training and qualification for CNSC inspectors, followed by service line-specific and on-the-job training relevant to an inspector’s particular area of work. This paper will provide an overview of the CNSC’s conceptual approach to inspector training in general, including a description of the ITQP. The focus of the paper will then turn to training measures for domestic safeguards inspectors, which are currently under development.
