Abstract
Environmental sampling within nuclear facilities is now used by the International Atomic Energy Agency as part of routine inspections to verify the absence of undeclared nuclear activities. The analysis of such samples is accomplished in a Network of Analytical Laboratories. The IAEA Clean Laboratory for Safeguards in Seibersdorf, Austria, is an integral part of this network, providing the Agency with the capability to independently confirm inspection results. The Clean Laboratory also produces clean sampling kits, handles the sample logistics of returned samples, and produces quality control samples for checking the accuracy of analytical results. This paper presents a review of the current capabilities and activities of the Clean Laboratory in support of the Agency?s environmental sampling program.
