Abstract
The purpose of this verification test is to verify structural integrity and safety functions of a dual-purpose cask under transport conditions after the long-term interim storage. The test focuses on a dual-purpose cask that is required to meet both regulations of transport and storage. This verification test is going to be carried out since 1999 fiscal year to 2003 fiscal year for the interim storage facilities that is going to be operated in 2010. Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation (NUPEC) conducts the test in accordance with the government basic policy for spent fuel interim storage. The test consists of survey study, material property test and system verification test using model cask. The purpose of survey study is to clarify the latest technical issues concerning spent fuel storage. Material property test is performed to confirm integrity of cask materials that are affected by heat and radiation exposure during long-term storage period. System verification test is going to be performed to confirm the integrity of cask containment system under accident condition of transportation after long-term storage.
