Abstract
The United States has recently completed recovery missions that resulted in the return of U.S.- origin highly enriched uranium (HEU) from South Korea and three universities within the United States. These missions, which support the goals of the Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI), were executed by the Y-12 National Security Complex. This paper reviews Y-12’s efforts in recent HEU fresh fuel removal efforts and provides an overview of the services Y-12 performs in support of the GTRI mission.
